The age old question is rearing it’s ugly head once again! “Am I too old?” This time I’m questioning my distressed, ripped, destroyed britches.
Destroyed denim is so trendy and stylish right now but again, “Am I getting too old for this look?” keeps getting in my way.
As most of you know by now, my style is about as casual as can be. I’m fortunate that I can wear denim britches to work every single day. So, it makes for a lot of blue jean looks in my everyday style.
However, as I am now approaching 60, February is the big 60 for me and I’m not mad about it in the least. In fact, I feel very blessed each year that God allows me on this earth. So, age is not necessarily a thing for me. But, watching the trends and noticing other women my age are not dressing quite the same as me, has me wondering.
So, I did some research and some soul searching, if you will. Here’s my final answer on the distressed/ripped/destroyed britches issue for women over 50. If you love it and you feel good about going out in public, then wear it. However, if you’re hesitant or feel you need to hide when out in public, maybe there’s something you can wear instead that still gives you the “edge” you’re looking for but doesn’t make you want to put yourself in “time out!”
For instance, you don’t have to be all “rippy” with your britches. You can look for something a bit more subtle like a “scratched” look in your denim. In this particular pair of denim britches there is tiniest amount of distress at the knee and all your stuff isn’t showing for the world to see. And, yet, there is still a bit of youthful “edge” about the look.
Also, you can choose where you see the distressing, for instance, maybe your limit is knee and below like this pair of distressed britches.
Also, you decide what your want your focal point to be. Will your focus be your cute top, your chunky sweater, maybe your boots? Or will your focus be on those cute distressed britches you’re sporting? You decide and then you play it up or down depending on your goal and comfort level.
For me, I’ll continue to sport my distressed denim as long as I’m comfortable in them. Some days it may be more bold but other days more subtle. Each look, occasion and mood is different and I’ll dress for it!
I hope this helps you decide whether you’re going way out there or keeping it simple and subtle with your next pair of distressed denim.
